Popin Social Limited ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information.

This policy (together with our end-user licence agreement as set out at in our Terms of Use) applies to your use of:

  • Popin Social App (which was last updated on 23 September 2024) mobile application software (App), once you have downloaded or streamed a copy of the App onto your mobile telephone or handheld device (Device).

  • Any of the services accessible through the App (Services)

 

This privacy policy outlines the types of personal information we collect, how we use it, and the measures we take to protect it.  This policy is designed to comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and is applicable to users within the United Kingdom.

This App is not intended for children and we do not knowingly collect data relating to children.  Please read the following carefully to understand our practices regarding your personal data and how we will treat it.

This version was last updated on 23 September 2024.  It may change and if it does, these changes will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notified to you by email OR when you next start the App.  The new policy may be displayed on-screen and you may be required to read and accept the changes to continue your use of the App or the Services.

 

It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current.  Please keep us informed if your personal data changes during our relationship with you.

 

Partner Venues

​

The Popin App is designed as a neighbourhood loyalty and engagement platform.  Certain local businesses have signed up to become our partner “Venues” and please note that as an integral part of the Services we are required to share your details with Venues who support the Popin Service.   These details will include (i) all information contained in your user profile; (ii) your points statement; (iii) your global Popin status; (iv) details of your previous use of the Services at that Venue; (v) generic location data derived from your mobile phone; and (vi) more specific data about your location when in the area of that Venue; all as explained in our Terms of Use. By using the App and the Services, you consent to us disclosing your information to Venues in this way. If you do not wish us to disclose your information to Venues, please do not use the App or the Services.

When you leave a review on the App relating to the Partner Venue, they may get in touch with you directly using the contact details you have supplied.  If you would rather this did not happen, then please contact us and they will only be able to respond to you through the App.

Please note that as an integral part of the Services we are required to share your details with Venues who support the Popin Service.

Third party links

​

Our App may, from time to time, contain links to and from the websites of our Venues.  Please note that these websites and any services that may be accessible through them have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies or for any personal data that may be collected through these websites or services, such as Contact and Location Data.  Please check these policies before you submit any personal data to these websites or use these services.

Information We Collect

​

In order to become a user of the Popin App, you will be asked to complete a registration by inputting your data.  We may collect and store any personal information you provide in connection with your registration and/or while using our Service, which may include, identifying information such as your name, email address, date of birth, gender, hometown, city of residence, telephone number and listed friends currently using the app among others.  By choosing to provide this information, you consent to our processing of it.

We may also collect your data by using certain credentials from your Social Networking Services if you provide us with the relevant social networking links.  By doing this you authorise us to access information from your Social Networking Services, such as your username, email address and profile picture.  This information may be used to verify your identity.

You will be asked on registration to allow us to collect your geographical location information and you may respond to such request by allowing us to either collect location information at all times, or only while you are using the App, or not at all.  Further you may be asked if you would like to display your specific location to other users.  The disclosure of your location to other users or our Venues is not required for you to use the Service and may be enabled or disabled by you at any time through the App settings, although for full functionality of the Service it is better to allow Location Data processing.

If you communicate with other users of the App or third parties such as our Venues through the App, we will have access to the content of your conversation.

Should you contact us with an inquiry, we may collect the content of that correspondence or interaction.

You may change your personal information (other than your date of birth) at any time within the App settings

​

In summary, we collect information that you provide directly to us, information generated during your use of our App, and information we obtain from third parties. 

 

This may include:

  • Personal Identification Information: Name, email address, phone number, etc.

  • Usage Data: Information on how you use the app, including access times, device information, communication with third parties and browsing history.

  • Location Information: Your geographical location, if you grant us permission.

 

In addition to the information you provide, certain information will be automatically collected as you use the Service, including, but not limited to, the operation system used by your device, your device type and ID, your IP address, how and how often you interact with other users and access times.

If you grant us permission to use location services, we will automatically collect data regarding your geographical location at all times or while the App is actively running, depending on the permission you grant us.  Note that even if you do not grant us permission to use location services, we may collect data regarding your city and general location through your IP address.

How We Use Your Information

​

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to do so.  We use your personal data in the following circumstances:

  • Where you have consented before the processing

  • To create and manage your account

  • To provide, maintain, and improve our App

  • To communicate with you about updates, support, and administrative messages.

  • To facilitate and monitor use, content and interactions among users and Venues

  • To perform research, analysis and analytics internally or by using a third party service

  • To manage our business

  • For security, fraud prevention, and legal purposes

  • To personalize your App experience and communicate with you

  • To enforce or exercise rights under our Terms

  • We will only send you direct marketing communications by email or text if we have your consent.  You have the right to withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us.

 

Sharing Your Information

 

We may share your information with third parties in the following situations:

  • With our Venues so they may message you through the App or directly following your leaving a review about their venue.

  • With service providers who perform services on our behalf.

  • To comply with the law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, the public, or ourselves.

  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.

We will get your express opt-in consent before we share your personal data with any third party for marketing purposes.

Children's Privacy

​

We restrict our Service to people who are 18 years of age and older.  Only prospective end-users aged 18 and over will be considered for acceptance, but we are not liable should a prospective end-user misrepresent their age in the application.  Should we become aware of an end-user who is not at least 18 years of age, we will immediately remove that end-user from our Service.  We do not knowingly collect, maintain or use information from children under the age of 18.

Security and Keeping your Information Secure

We take reasonable steps to ensure your personal information is protected from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

All information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers.  Where we have given you (or where you have chosen) a password that enables you to access certain parts of our App, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential.  We ask you not to share a password with anyone.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator when we are legally required to do so.

Once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way.

Certain features on our App include social networking, chat room or forum features.  Ensure when using these features that you do not submit any personal data that you do not want to be seen, collected or used by other end-users.

International Transfers

Sharing of information referenced above sometimes may involve cross-border data transfers.  Many of our external third parties (eg Google Analytics) are based outside the UK so their processing of your personal data will involve a transfer of data outside the UK.

Whenever we transfer your personal data out of the UK, we ensure a similar degree of protection is afforded to it by ensuring at least one of the following safeguards is implemented:

  • We will only transfer your personal data to countries that have been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data.

  • Where we use certain service providers, we may use specific contracts approved by the UK which give personal data the same protection it has in the UK.

Data Retention

By law we have to keep basic information about our end-users (including contact, identity, financial and transaction Data) for six years after they cease being customers for tax purposes.

In some circumstances you can ask us to delete your data.

In some circumstances we will anonymise your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

In the event that you do not use the App for a period of three years then we will treat the account as expired and your personal data may be deleted.

Your legal rights

 

Under certain circumstances you have the following rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data including the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data.

  • Request correction of your personal data.

  • Request erasure of your personal data.

  • Object to processing of your personal data.

  • Request restriction of processing your personal data.

  • Request transfer or your personal data.

  • Right to withdraw consent.

 

You also have the right to ask us not to continue to process your personal data for marketing purposes.
